Questions

Before your first class

How old do I have to be?

Classes are for adults, ages 18 and up. Everyone starts in Fundamentals, whether you are 20 or 60.

Can I watch a class first?

Yes. Sit on the bench by the door and watch any class, or come to a Fundamentals class and try it.

What do I wear to the first class?

A plain t-shirt and loose, stretchy trousers or shorts, and clean bare feet. Take off jewelry and tie hair back. We lend pads and gloves for your first classes.

What is a class like?

We warm up, then work on one idea at a time: distance, awareness, a firm voice and partner drills on pads. Partners set the pace together, and an instructor is on the floor the whole time.

Do I need to be fit?

No. All fitness levels start here, and an instructor shows you how to scale every drill. The conditioning class is built to be a workout that is also a class.

Do you use belts?

No. Classes are Fundamentals, Intermediate, conditioning and open training. An instructor tells you when you are ready to join Intermediate.

Is there a class just for women?

Yes. The women's class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, and it is taught by Malini. Women are welcome in every other class too.

I serve or I used to. Is there anything I should know?

Wardell served, and many of our members have served or are serving. Tell us at the door if you would like to train with others who have, and tell us if your orders may move you. We will explain how to pause or end a membership.

How does membership work, and how do I stop?

Membership is set by the plan and how often you train. Plans have a term, and you stop by telling us in writing with 30 days' notice. The membership page has the rest.

What if I miss a class?

Come to another class at the same level that week, or tell the front desk if you need to pause for travel, a shift or an injury.

Still have a question?

Send a message, or book a class and ask at the door.
